Robert A. Goulart, MD, president of New England Pathology Associates, PC, has been appointed by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as its co-representative on a panel updating the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) Consensus Guidelines for Managing Abnormal Cervical Cancer Screening Tests and Cancer Precursors. Dr. Goulart also serves on the ASCP Board of Directors. The ASCP is the world’s largest professional society dedicated to excellence in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
The consensus process hosted by ASCCP historically yields the most prominent recommendations for management of positive screening results. The overall goal of the project is to combine risk data generated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) with clinical action thresholds developed during the consensus process with the end result providing a new set of Risk-Based Management Guidelines.
